Frequently Asked Questions
How is Kambo administered?
Kambo is applied to small burns or "gates" made on the skin. The secretion is then placed on these gates, allowing it to enter the lymphatic system. After the secretion is applied, you may experience intense purging, swelling, and a rapid heart rate; this typically lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. The effects subside within an hour, followed by a period of rest and recovery. Click on “What to Expect” in the navigation bar above for more detailed information.
Is Kambo safe?
Kambo has been used by indigenous tribes in the Amazon for thousands of years. It is safe when administered by a trained and experienced practitioner who can manage dosage and monitor the recipient’s response. Kambo can cause side effects like vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, swelling, and dizziness. It is crucial to undergo a pre-screening with one of our practitioners and answer all questions with complete honesty. Individuals with certain health conditions should avoid Kambo. Will I purge?
Purging is a common response to Kambo. During a Kambo session, you may experience various forms of purging, such as vomiting, sweating, crying, or defecation. This is considered a natural part of the process and is thought to help cleanse the body of toxins and emotional blockages. Each person's experience with Kambo is unique, and the intensity and form of purging can vary widely. Many people’s biggest fear in considering a Kambo session is the prospect of soiling their pants! We see to it that all of your needs are met in this regard, including bathroom availability. Your practitioner will guide you through the process and provide support throughout the session.
Will I have scars after a session?
The entry points will heal and fade with time but depending on your skin color and type, you may always have small visible scars. Following Kambo treatment, once the Dragon’s Blood is dry, you can apply most plant-based topical treatments to aid the healing process and limit scarring. Please stay away from chemical cream products like Neosporin. Many people regard their Kambo scars as a badge of honor.
Is Kambo legal?
Kambo is legal in the United States and many other countries.
Are the frogs harmed when Kambo is harvested?
In general, the frogs are not harmed during sustainable harvesting. Indigenous tribes have developed methods to collect the frog's secretion without causing permanent harm to the animal. The secretion is a natural defense mechanism that the frog can regenerate. The frogs are carefully captured from the wild, usually early in the morning when they are more active. They are carefully stretched out and their legs are tied to sticks in a manner that causes them no lasting harm. This position helps the collectors access the glands where the secretion is stored. The secretion is released by stimulating the frog's skin, and is collected on a Kambo stick. After the secretion is collected, the frogs are released back into their natural habitat at the same location in which they were found. The indigenous tribes who use Kambo have a deep respect for the frogs and the environment. They follow practices that ensure the frogs can continue to thrive. While traditional harvesting methods are designed to be sustainable, it is essential to be aware of and support ethical practices, especially with the growing popularity of Kambo treatments outside of indigenous communities.
